Placement, the honest way

Know your Spanish level

Tick everything you can already do out loud, without translating in your head first. Choose the level at which you can speak, not the level at which you can understand. Nothing here is graded and nobody sees your answers.

Beginning I

Start at the beginning, and enjoy it. This class is for true beginners and for anyone who took Spanish at school but still can't speak it. You'll acquire the top 100+ verbs and words through storytelling and finish able to talk about yourself in the present tense.

Still unsure, or between two levels? Email Profe Linda and describe the last Spanish class you took. She would rather place you by conversation than by checklist.

The five levels

What each class expects of you on day one

01

Beginning I

Nothing at all. True beginners welcome, as are refugees from high-school Spanish who never got speaking.

02

Beginning II

You can speak on familiar topics in the present tense with acceptable pronunciation, roughly what Beginning I gives you.

03

Intermediate

You've completed Beginning I & II, understand most of what you hear in class, and can hold a simple conversation without translating first.

04

Advanced I

You're comfortable with the subjunctive and can communicate in most tenses already — this is a guided conversation course entirely in Spanish.

05

Advanced II

You've completed Advanced I and have Profe Linda's approval to continue into the second half.
